RoHS was passed by the European Union in January of 2003. It's purpose is to mandate manufacturers to design and manufacture electronic equipment using more environmentally efficient methods. The transition to lead free components can be a complex issue. There is no clear standard for manufactures or distributors to follow. The manufactures are invoking a number of different solutions to identify lead free components, but no standard has emerged. It is our intention to try to help during this transition. The effective date of this directive is July 30, 2006.

The banned substances are Lead, cadmium, mercury, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated bi-phenyls, and polychlorinated biphenyl ethers.

Affected are all equipment dependent on electrical currents or electromagnetic fields. This includes computers, telecom equipment, consumer electronics, electrical/electronic toys or tools.
